The gteatest windstorm ever recorded in the southern part of Great Britain takes place. It is  known as The Great Storm. Wings gust up to 120 mph and 9.000 people died.

An undersea  earthquake of 8.7 – 9.2 magnitude hits Sumatra, causing a big tsunami  all along  the Indonesian coast.
